Favorite Foods Of Prophet (PBUH) And Their Benefits

Allah has filled this earth with enormous provisions for human being to eat and live with. Hunger is one of the foremost and basic requirement of human body and Allah has made enormous arrangements on this earth for humans to eat and satisfy their hunger with them. However, These foods and provisions are bounty of Allah for every human being whether believer or disbeliever. Allah is just and most merciful even to his deniers. SubhanAllah.

Holy Prophet (PBUH) was one of the best creation of Allah and Allah sent him as our leader, to our Ummah. As other humans he also had the same requirements. He also ate, drank, walked and laughed. He also had fondness of foods but his likeness was based on Hikmah and the knowledge that Allah granted him. He always liked and recommended those foods which were nutritious and healthy for human beings.

Let’s have a look on the favorite foods of Prophet (PBUH) and How they are healthy and beneficial for humans.

PUMPKIN

“The Holy Prophet (PBUH) among all other foods, liked pumpkin. (Tirmidhi)”

Among all other foods Prophet (PBUH) liked, Pumpkin was his favorite. At numerous occasion he used to start with pumpkin on dining table followed by other foods. Pumpkin has proven medical & nutritional qualities such as, lowering the risk of cancer, stimulating the functioning of kidneys and also reduce wrinkles on face.

HONEY

“Honey is a remedy for every illness and the Qur’an is a remedy for all illness of the mind, therefore I recommend to you remedies, the Qur’an and honey” [Bukhari]

Prophet (PBUH) recommended honey as one of the best and nutritious food which has curing capability for every illness. It is regarded as healthiest food and Prophet (PBUH) frequently used it in his diets. It has many benefits such as it is best for stomach, eyes and other diseases. Its importance is obvious in above mentioned Hadith where it is compared with the healing capacity of Al Qur’an.

DATES

Dates were one of the main constituent of the diet of Prophet. He used to eat them regularly and was often gifted dates by the visitors. Dates were common in those days and it is common among every Muslims till today.

Prophet (PBUH) in one of Hadith said,

“He who eats seven ‘Ajwa dates every morning will not be affected by poison or magic on the day he eats them.” (Bukhari)

Dates have high nutritional qualities, they are cholesterol free, they have less fat and are full of vitamins and minerals such as potassium, iron, manganese and Calcium. They are healthier for a human body.

GRAPES

“And from the fruits of the palm trees and grapevines you take intoxicant and good provision. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who reason.” [Quran, 16: 67]

Grapes are among few fruits mentioned in Qur’an. Since it’s benefits are mentioned in Qur’an. It is obvious that it must be having high nutritional and medical values. It is a fruit of Paradise. Prophet was very fond of grapes and it is narrated in many Hadith that grapes were presented in front of Prophet and he used to accept and share it among companions. Some of the medical benefits are that it proved to be helpful in purification of blood, providing strength and energy and strengthening of kidneys.

BARLEY

Barley was one of the favorite foods of Apostle of Allah. The farmers used to grow Barley crops during those times in Arabia. Prophet liked barley very much, his companions used to gift him barley porridge or dough.

Once Prophet went on a dinner invitation with Ali and date was served to them. Ali started eating from that upon which Allah’s messenger paused him and said, “You recently recovered from illness, hence you are weak, hence don’t eat more.” Therefore, that lady prepared a dish from barley and beet root. Then, the Prophet ﷺ told Ali “eat from it, it is better for you”. (Tirmidhi)

Barley is great source of healing weakness and illness. It is also one of the best nutritional food on this earth and it is highly recommended for the weak to eat Barley.

FIG & OLIVE

Fig & Olive are Qur’anic fruits mentioned in Qur’an. They are among few edible items mentioned in Qur’an.

Figs are famous for the cureness of Stomach, piles and strengthening of bones. It is also a fruit of Paradise. It is recommended and used by Prophet as the opening verse of Surah Tin.

Olives has the many healing capacity and it is beneficial in healing skin and hairs. It can also slow down aging and keeps body stronger and young. It should be used as ointments and Prophet (PBUH) used and recommended it.

Narrated by Abu Hurairah (R.A):

“Eat Olive and use it as an ointment as it produced from a blessed tree.” (Tirmidhi)

However, This is a short and exhaustible list of favorite foods of Prophet (PBUH). Other foods include melon, milk, cucumber etc
