Muslims across the world are facing severe hatred and persecution .The Western Media has left no stone unturned to present Muslims as terrorists. After 9/11, Islamophobia is rising at increasingly high speed in the west .

Muslims are discriminated on the basis of religion.  Everyday we come across videos going viral on social media channels in which mosques are being vandalized, Muslim women with Hijab are being attacked, Muslim students are being discriminated and Muslim men are generally seen as potential threats.

We have seen the persecution of Muslims in Myanmar, mob lynching of men in India in the name of cow eating, attacks on the mosques in Sri Lanka , persecution of Uyghur Muslims in concentration camps in China and recently vandalizing of mosques in Germany.

After so many years, we have come across some positive reports about the decrease in Islamophobia and hate crimes in the Merseydey county. Yeah, you heard it right. Mohamed Salah’s arrival in Merseyside has directly influenced the reduction of hate crimes.

Researchers – based at Standford University and in Zurich  Salah being a dedicated Muslim is influencing his followers and presenting Islam in the best possible ways through his lifestyle, behavior and attitude.

According to a report recently publish by Immigration Policy Lab(IPL), there has been a constant drop down in hate crimes against Muslims in  Merseyside because of Mohamed Salah.  Mohamed Salah’s arrival in Merseyside has directly influenced the reduction of hate crimes.  Researchers – based at Standford University and in Zurich – found the  Saleh’s excellent performances for Liverpool since joining the club back in 2017 has resulted in Anti-Muslim posts on Twitter.

The fans of Liverpool F.C. has reduced posting the rates of posting Anti – Muslim tweets as compared to fans of other English Soccer Clubs.

The report titled , “Can Exposure to Celebrities Reduce Prejudice? The Effect of Mohamed Salah on Islamophobic Behaviors and Attitudes” was published one month before.

While researching they casually estimate the effect of Salah joining Liverpool F.C  on Islamophobic attitudes  and behaviors using 936 county-month hate crime observations, 15 million tweets from UK soccer fans and an original survey of 8060 Liverpool F.C fans and found that Mersyside county experienced an 18.9% drops in hate crimes relative to a synthetic control, while no similar effects was found for other types of crime.

Further, Liverpool F.C fans halves their rates of posting Anti-Muslim tweets, it’s a drop from 7.2% to 3.4% of tweets about Muslims relative to fans of other top-flight English soccer clubs. The report suggests that the result may be driven by increased familiarity with Islam.
